MEMORY CARE IN SOUTHBURY, CT

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is the Pomperaug Woods Heartfelt Connections Program vetted?
  1. Our Heartfelt Connections memory care program takes a unique person-centered approach to care. By focusing on the individual’s routines, interests, and preferences, we build a day filled with socialization and engagement.  That human connection and cognitive stimulation provides the highest quality of life possible to those with dementia.  While every person’s memory care journey is different, the families of our residents report time and again that their loved one has never been happier, healthier, and “more like their old self” than they have been in years.
Q. Is the Pomperaug Woods staff specially trained in memory care?
  1. Yes. All staff members receive dementia-specific training, as well as training in the Pomperaug Woods’ Heartfelt Connections programming.  The state of Connecticut also requires staff log a requisite number of memory care training hours, and our community exceeds that benchmark.
Q. How does Pomperaug Woods’ Assisted Living Memory Care differ from Assisted Living care?
  1. Assisted Living provides residents with assistance for daily living (bathing, grooming, dressing, medication management). Assisted Living Memory Care provides residents with additional supports that specifically address the unique needs of memory loss.  With memory care, specially-trained team members work closely with the resident and their loved ones to create reliable structure and a familiar schedule — all within a secure environment to ensure safety and comfort.  Both AL and ALMC strive to keep the resident as independent, active, and engaged as possible so that they continue to pursue a lifestyle that is meaningful to them.
Q. How is Pomperaug Woods’ pricing different from other memory care facilities?
  1. Other memory care facilities will require you to sign an annual contract. At Pomperaug Woods, there is never any contract.  Your loved one’s residency is on a month-to-month basis for as long as you choose for them to stay at Pomperaug Woods.
  2. Other memory care facilities will charge you a base rate, and then add additional service fees for each ADL (activities of daily living).  That means each time they dispense a medication, or help a resident with bathing, toileting, personal hygiene, dressing, or eating, a fee is tacked onto the monthly bill.  That can add up pretty fast!  At Pomperaug Woods, residents are charged one all-inclusive value-priced monthly fee.  No matter how your loved one’s health needs change, there are never any service add-ons.  The monthly rate is predictable and extremely budget-friendly.  (The monthly fee includes daily nursing care, medications, assistance with activities of daily living, regular housekeeping with linen and towel service, personal laundry, meal plan, community activities, preventive building maintenance, and utilities including electric, water, and heat.)

Q. Are there visiting hours in memory care at Pomperaug Woods?
  1. Friends and family are welcome anytime. This is your loved one’s home!  Guests can enjoy all dining venues, amenities, and activities during their visit.
Q. Can memory care residents personalize their apartments?
  1. Of course! We’re happy to provide the large furniture (bed, television), but you’re encouraged to bring familiar items and treasured belongings to provide comfort and consistency.  We want every aspect of their surroundings to bring happiness, so if your loved one has a favorite recliner, photographs, or décor that is meaningful to them, by all means bring it.
