Rehabilitation

When you need to rest and recuperate after surgery, injury, or an illness, a short-term stay in the Pomperaug Woods Health Center for Rehabilitative Care is just what the doctor ordered. We welcome any senior who needs rehabilitative care and are happy to partner with your doctor to create a custom care plan to help you build back your strength and stamina. Whether your rehab needs last a matter of weeks or months, in-patient rehabilitation stays at our Health Center are frequently paid for by insurance or Medicare, and we’re happy to work with you and your provider to assess coverage.

Our experienced Rehabilitation Care Team offers acute care with an on-site full-time staff that features licensed therapists and registered nurses, including:

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is used to improve a patient’s ability to move their body and manage their pain. Our experienced physical therapy team focuses on four types of physical therapy — geriatric, orthopedic, neurological, and cardiopulmonary. They help patients regain range of motion, muscle strength, coordination, and balance, striving to reduce pain and increase mobility and endurance.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is used to help patients regain the ability to perform everyday tasks on their own. This type of therapy treats patients through the therapeutic use of commonplace activities, helping them develop, recover, improve, and maintain activities of daily living like bathing, dressing, and cooking. OT specialists also teach patients how to adapt tasks or modify their environment so that they can regain their independence.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy treats speech disorders and communication problems, helping patients develop skills like clarity, voice, fluency, and sound production, as well as cognitive-related speech issues impacting memory, comprehension, listening, and processing. The speech team also addresses safe eating practices and swallowing difficulties that are often intertwined with speech issues.
