Meet Irv & Ina Borenzweig
This Month's Spotlighted Independent Living Residents

“At a certain point, it became clear that we didn’t need all the space we had in our condo at Heritage Village,” said Irv. “We looked at one other senior living community, but it felt too big and cold. Pomperaug Woods felt warmer, friendlier, and more personal. Even though we’d been to Pomperaug Woods many times, we decided to make an appointment to take an official tour of the community to see it from a fresh perspective. Of course, the unexpected happened, and we both came down with Covid before our visit. We canceled our tour appointment, and do you know what happened? Vicki Gyba-Marshall, the Executive Director of Pomperaug Woods, personally stopped by our home to drop off chicken soup to help us get better. She cared, and that meant a lot to us. Now that we live here, I’ve stopped by Vicki’s office to ask for help tweaking our long-term disability insurance coverage. She is so knowledgeable, and she takes the time to give us guidance. You don’t find that personal support just anywhere. Living at Pomperaug Woods makes all the difference. The staff knows us by name.”
“Living here has a beautiful simplicity,” said Ina. “We’ve downsized into an apartment. I don’t need to grocery shop, cook, or clean. I can just enjoy myself. I love taking part in the Creative Arts class, taught by Lisa Hubenthal, Director of Community Life. I’m so proud to have five pieces of art hanging throughout the community.”
“As you age, you want to live in a place that keeps you busy with new interests,” said Irv. “The staff at Pomperaug Woods listens and does their best to accommodate all requests. I asked for a basketball hoop so I could practice free throws. We now have a mini indoor basketball hoop and backboard. It really means a lot to me!”
We’re thrilled to have you both at Pomperaug Woods, Irv and Ina. Your enthusiasm for life is so inspiring!
